Research Introduction
Before making my trailer I really need to know precisely what my viewers are looking for, what they actually want and what they would be interested in watching. To overcome this first hurdle I have looked at the results of a recent survey I conducted on my personal film website inviting viewers to offer suggestion as to what style of film they would like me to produce. In addition I also asked participants to enter their age and gender to ensure I target the correct audience.
I found the result to be a target audience of teenage girls who have requested a fantasy film with a dark side and a twist.
Before I start my fantasy trailer I have decided to spent some considerable time researching the fantasy genre in order to procure the desired result. I have found many films to choose from to help me but I have decided to use some of my own personal favourites such as:

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
I like the macabre atmosphere of this film combined with the theme of innocence given off by the sisters
Amazing use of binary opposites

Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997)
I love how this is based on the original fairy tale
rather than the take on fairytales which parents tell there children
I love how they have chosen Sigourney Weaverto act for the dominant role

This film reminds me of the film sucker-punch
I love how the theme of imagination is brought into this film along with
the theme of innocence and invincibility of the female protagonist
Alongside a more underlying sinister plotline

The Company of Wolves(1984)
I like the take on the classic take of Red Riding Hood
I think the underlying theme shows the journey into adolescence
An interesting take which loosely follows the original storyline

I cannot describe how much I love this film
again with the theme of love, innocence and magic
It is put together with a modern glossy feel
I love the idea of sacrafice which gives a very traditional fairytale feel

Small Theme relation noted
I have noticed that many of the films in these similar genres
Have a predominant theme of innocence alongside more sinister themes
I feel that this relates them back to the more original versions of fairytales

Refined Research
I liked the idea of fairy tale so I researched into some modern films with fairy tale elements and came across this.
Red Riding Hood Research
This has been based on a well known fairy tale, with the dark atmosphere and strong theme such as forbidden love, whilst still maintaining the conventions of a typical fairy tale plot line, such as the curse.
In addition to the above I have also looked at many other fantasy examples some of them dark some of them childlike, many of which I can recollect from my childhood, most of which were animated Walt Disney classics, plus some recent eastern films of ‘Anime’

Red riding hood
Review: For most people, fairytales are just some bedtime stories you read to your children. A wonderful colored world, where there is always a "happily ever after" waiting for the protagonist. No wonder that most film adaptations of famous fairytales end up looking like kids' Hardwicke and screenwriter David Johnson also attempt to excise the potential problem of sexism in the film, which I would argue is necessary for any fairy tale adaptation. Of course, it’s extremely easy to simply accuse “Red Riding Hood” of being sexist because it follows the basic plot of “Twilight” and the girl caught in the middle has no real agency. Unfortunately, that’s just flagrantly untrue, and can be chalked up to what really is a “guilt by association” mentality that will probably come up every time Catherine Hardwicke directs a movie about teenagers from now on.

Snow white The Hunstman
Snow white the huntsman Yesterday I went to see snow white the huntsman.
I thought it was an amazing film.
Things I loved in this film are the acting skills
the cinematography and how they still kept the typical elements of fairytale into their film.
Things I will have to do for my film to become more successful contains some of the following.
-Train my actors up and get them prepped for the roles and lines
-Concentrate on symbolism
-learn how to put special effects into my film.

Rough Initial Ideas
In order to captivate the audience I will need to include a number of fantasy themes and special effects to stir the imagination imploring them to ask for more, given that the trailer will only be 3 minutes long it is essential that I utilize as many themes as possible but stay focused on the issue at hand in order to get the story across.
The themes I intend to incorporate will involve magic, myth, escapism, wonderment, supernatural, fairy-tale and legend, all incorporating the extraordinary set in a back drop of striking film locations both new and old.
It will of course require the casting of a heroine, a hero and a villain. In this particular example I will be choosing a Princess, a Prince and a sorceress in the form of an evil queen, all of whom originate from the distant past but will be interweaved with the present day.
